Becky Binney Woodruff (Farm Fitness Coordinator, Personal Training, Diving)
Becky is the Fitness Director at the Farm and she also manages the summer diving programs. Becky is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Certified Health Fitness Specialist. Her background for 20 years prior to going in to fitness full-time was working in hospitals mostly in Rehabilitation, The Jaycee Burn Center and Psychiatry, so she has a good understanding of the clinical aspects of certain medical challenges that we face as we age. Becky provides personal training for all interested Farm members but feels her expertise lies in working with non-athlete youth, adults, older adults, weight loss programs, and working with youth, adults, older adults and seniors with various medical challenges. Becky also runs the summer Farm Diving Program.
Hannah Southard (Personal Trainer by appointment)
Hannah was born and raised in Northern Ireland and has been a PTR certified tennis coach since 2011, coaching throughout high school and college on weekends and holidays. She played tennis for Lancaster University before graduating in 2015. While at college, Hannah discovered her passion for training in the gym to improve her sports performance and began working in a local gym. Hannah moved to NC in early 2017 to pursue coaching and has been working at The Farm ever since. In 2018, Hannah became a NASM certified Personal Trainer to help others to stay active both on and off the tennis court.
Gillian Harper (Farm Yoga Program)
Gillian is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor who teaches level 1 and 2 classes. Gillian took her first Yoga class in Manhattan, NY in 2000. At that time, she became a dedicated student of yoga. Gillian received a 200-hour RYT certification with a focus on Vinyasa yoga in 2003. She then moved to Durham and was introduced to Iyengar Yoga in 2009 and has been a dedicated practitioner ever since. Gillian is currently certified at the combined Introductory I/II level and is now working towards her Junior I certification. Gillian is excited to be expanding her yoga class offerings at The Farm. She uses props such as belts, blocks, and straps as aids to help participants into poses one step at a time. The Focus is on structural alignment, development of strength, stamina, flexibility and concentration. Yoga is a good compliment to any sport and can aid with mobility, strength and focus in everyday life as well as on the tennis court! Katie Corley (Cardio PopUp Workout)
Exercise is an important part of Katie’s life. With three young boys and a hectic schedule, she enjoys both the physical and mental benefits she gets from a great workout. Sharing this love of exercise and the numerous positive benefits it can provide is what lead Katie to create PopUp Workout, LLC. Her goal is to make each class a challenging and unique workout that will leave you energized, motivated, and stronger to tackle the rest of your day. Katie is an ACE certified instructor and has taught numerous types of classes including barre, HITT (high intensity interval training), tabata, boot camp, and toning. Gina Althoff (Body Combat and Body Pump)
Gina Althoff is a lifetime fitness enthusiast. She is an AAFA certified personal trainer and former Camp Gladiator trainer. She is also a Les Mills Instructor certified to teach Body Combat, CXWorks (30 minute core training), and Body Pump. Gina’s early morning fitness classes focus on strength training, agility, HIIT, endurance training with a focus on core at end of each workout. They are a great way to start your day.
James Sutton (Tai Chi)
James is an instructor with the Magic Tortoise Taijiquan School under the direction of Dr. Jay Dunbar. James began his training in 2005 and has had many experienced instructors to include “Lao Ma” Lamoureux and Wang Ming Bo. James has attended international Tai Chi Chuan Symposiums and has won medals in several state tournaments. James also practices Chen, and Wu/Hao styles of Tai Chi, Liuhebafaquan (water boxing) as well as push hands and some weapons including sword, stick, and dao.
Kat Thorburn (Kids Finding Balance After School Yoga Class)
Kat is thrilled to share her passion for yoga with children this Fall at The Farm. Her classes are especially designed for 8-12 year olds. They offer a unique blend of fun and playful practice that leaves students feeling refreshed and inspired. Kat is a certified instructor in the “Kidding Around Yoga” method, and enjoys incorporating song, dance, creative movement and art into her classes. As a classically trained ballet dancer, Kat became a dedicated follower of yoga after a life changing accident. She believes that yoga, while a physically and mentally challenging practice, offers a quiet sense of mindfulness that is particularly beneficial to children in today’s over scheduled and busy world. In addition, Kat is a veteran Public School Teacher Assistant and on many afternoons, you will find Kat teaching yoga classes to kiddos at her home studio.
Rebekah Ryan (Total Body Conditioning)
Rebekah (Bekah) is very excited to be joining the Farm Staff as a fitness instructor and Head Diving Coach this summer. Her face may be familiar since she spent most of her childhood summers at the Farm as a camper, swim team member, camp counselor, lifeguard and dive coach. During Bekah’s senior year in high school she started the Farm Day and Youth Camp Diving Program before heading off to ECU where she dove competitively. Through her diving and Farm life, Bekah developed her great love for fitness and health. Bekah has a degree in Science Education and is a Certified AFAA Group Fitness Instructor. Teaching group fitness classes and getting others involved in fitness is Bekah’s passion and we hope that you join her in class.
Michael Khoury (Fitness Trainer)
Michael grew up at The Farm going to all the camps. As a teenager and young adult, he then worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor for 8 years at The Farm pool. After playing rugby and basketball in high school, Michael went on to play rugby at East Carolina University. He developed his passion for fitness through athletics which led him to pursue a career exercise physiology. After graduating from ECU in 2016 Michael moved to Norfolk, Virginia to work in a sports orthopedic physical therapy clinic which focused on athletes of all levels and ages including tennis players. Michael’s focus is on strength and conditioning, sport specific training, and helping people achieve their fitness goals whatever they may be. Michael is excited to continue his personal training with members at The Farm and is ready to help you develop an exercise plan which is individually prescribed with your goals and needs in mind.
