Since its inception in 2022, Swim Across America-Carolina has raised over $400,000 for cancer research at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center through pool swims. Now, they’re excited to announce Swim Across America-Carolina’s inaugural Spring Pickleball Mixer! They’re launching this new event to build upon their annual fundraising efforts in the pool and further support cancer research at UNC.
What: Swim Across America-Carolina is kicking off fundraising for 2025 with a pickleball mixer. Their goal is to continue raising more money for cancer research at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Approximately 40% of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. Meanwhile, the National Cancer Institute funds only a small percentage of applicants for research grants. Swim Across America is working to fill the funding void and support doctors’ efforts in the fight against cancer.
Swim Across America is a national non-profit that has raised over $100 million for cancer research and clinical trials through open water swims, pool swims, and other events throughout the USA. Swim Across America’s funding of clinical trials helped contribute to 4 FDA approved life-saving immunotherapy cancer treatments: Yervoy, Opdivo, Tecentriq, and Keytruda.
When: Saturday, April 12th, 2025 from 9:00-11:30am (rain date: April 13th)
Where: The Farm (1 Alice Ingram Circle, Chapel Hill, NC 27517)
How to Register: Visit Swim Across America website and then press the “Donate Now” button on the right side of the page and complete the form. In order to participate in the event, they are asking for a $50 donation. They are also offering a student rate of $25 for current students (ID cards will be requested at check-in). If you are participating in the event, please provide your t-shirt size and skill level.
Fundraising: They encourage each participant to try to fundraise at least $100 from family/friends/classmates/co-workers. Their goal is to maximize our support of cancer research at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and every dollar counts! Fundraising will remain open until the end of SAA’s fiscal year (October 31).
Donations can be made by clicking the “Donate Now” button on the right side of this page. If your family, friends, and other contacts prefer to contribute by check, the check should be made payable to Swim Across America and brought to the pickleball event or sent to Swim Across America (8508 Park Road #389, Charlotte, NC 28210). Make sure to include a note mentioning the Carolina Spring Pickleball Mixer with the check.
